Flight physics
The realistic model tracks engine and rotor speed separately. Collective, aircraft weight, air density, ground effect and airspeed determine lift; engine failures, overheating and fuel consumption change the available power. The arcade model has its own update routine.
Original simulation traces
Each scenario starts a fresh copy of training mission 61, feeds the original keyboard handler and runs the original simulation at 20 updates per second. Every case is repeated from scratch and compared across its complete state sequence. These are reference runs for the reconstruction.

Touchdown
The landing assessment combines forward speed and descent rate: severity = abs(forward speed) × 0.01 − vertical speed / 22, with both speeds in feet per second. Values above 0.3, 0.6 and 0.8 produce progressively worse landing grades; above 0.9 is a fatal impact. Three surface categories are fatal unless the helicopter is attached to a carrier.
