# Printed-map named locations

The [3D explorer](../analysis/city/3d.html) and [2D map](../analysis/city/index.html) provide an optional **Named locations (printed map)** overlay and a selector containing all 69 numbered entries. Selecting a location enables the overlay and, in 3D, moves the camera to its approximate area. In 2D, numbered markers correspond to the selector. The 3D minimap shows location dots. Overlapping 3D labels are suppressed, with the selected label taking priority; all names remain selectable. Halon and underground maps have no entries from this source.

Source: the supplied `Darker_Map_DOS_EN_City-Reference-Map.jpg`. Names and white-circle centres were transcribed manually, preserving printed spellings such as “Foundary”. The outer energy-beacon centres in the scan, approximately (140,138) and (1160,1155), were aligned with game cells (0,0) and (126,126). The 15-by-15 printed beacon grid matches the game's nine-cell beacon spacing. An affine scale maps the numbered-label centres into game coordinates.

These are **area labels**, not verified building anchors, district boundaries or executable-resident names. The printed artwork is schematic and the scan has folds and distortion. A label may lie on empty ground beside the represented landmark. No geometry was snapped to the nearest building, and no exact mission association is inferred.

`tools/named_locations.py` preserves the pixel measurements and exports [named-locations.json](../analysis/city/named-locations.json). `tools/named_locations.js` supplies the shared overlays; rebuild the pages with `tools/city_scene.py` and `tools/inspect_city.py` after changing the catalogue.

Validation: both browsers expose all 69 entries; selection enables the overlay; selecting another city disables the list; returning to Delphi restores it. Checked camera navigation, rendered label placement and WebGL error state in Chromium.
